Museum of Footwear - S. Elpidio a Mare
The exhibition space has been designed to illustrate transformations footwear has undergone, from the first medieval approaches to the most recent production, in many cases true works of art, fruit of ability and skills of local craftsmen.
The Museum houses thousands of exhibits, including shoes, lasts, machines and tools for production, offered by firms or private citizens, exhibited in thematic areas.
The section “Footwear of every Time and Place” consists of shoes, boots, sandals, clogs and slippers from China, India, Canada and Latin America, European and African countries.
In the collection there are also old prints, tools, unusual shoe-horns, cloth, metal and ceramic bootees.
The section “The Footwear Industry in the Marche” houses original footwear made on the basis of exclusive designs developed by students at the Regional School for Footwear , machinery and equipment used in times gone by,
The section “Shoes of Famous People” houses footwear belonging to Pope John Paul II, Pope John XXIII, Pope Leo XIII and Cardinal Achille Ratti, to sport champions as Gino Bartali, Francesco Moser, Mario Cipollini, Yuri Chechi, Giovanni Trapattoni, Valentino Rossi, Marco Tardelli, Eddie Irvine, Simona Vesprini, Valentina Vezzali, Giovanna Trillini, Zidane and Stefano Cerioni; and to famous Italian singers and show-business stars, among them Milva, Angelo Branduardi, Bobby Solo, Maestro Detto Mariano and the celebrated tenor Beniamino Gigli.
